Backing up an Existing Please Review 8 Installation

Please Review upgrade is performed by upgrading a variety of different components depending on how you interact with Please Review and what integrations you have chosen to implement.
This article outlines how to backup your existing installation which is an essential step in preparing for an upgrade. This article is split into the following sections:
1. Stop Services & App Pools
- Go to Start and then search for Internet Information Services (IIS).
- On the Connections pane, expand the server node and click Application Pools to display all Application Pools.
- On the Application Pools page, select the application pool for Please Review.
- Click Stop to stop the application pool.
- Go to Start and then search for Services.
- Locate the TaraService.
- Stop the service.
2. Backup the Database
- Open Microsoft SQL Management Studio
- Go to "Object Explorer" and expand the navigation tree until you can see the database
- Right click on the database name and select Tasks, then Back Up...
- When the "Back Up Database" window opens you can either accept the default storage destination (normally the same install location for Microsoft SQL) or click [Add...] to add a new destination or to change the file name of the backup.
- From the "Select a page" pane, click on Options.
- If an existing backup set exists in the same location you have the option to Overwrite or Append to the existing Backup set. Select the required option

- Backups performed at different times from the same or different databases can be stored on the same media. For this option, select "Append to the existing backup set."
- Selecting "Overwrite all existing backup sets" will overwrite all the backup sets on the media and preserve the media header, if any. If no media header exists, one is created.
- Click OK to create your backup.
Important Note: Before proceeding with the upgrade please verify that the backup has been successful.
3. Backup the Directories
Before you begin with the upgrade you should backup the Please Review directories. To do this:
- Browse to your Please Review installation directory.
Example: By default, the Please Review installation directory will be C:\Program Files\PleaseReview but this may be different depending on your installation.
- Copy the Please Review directory to a safe location. This will become your master backup.
