1. Enabling Repeating Content Controls
A content control is field that you can add to and customise for use in templates and reviews, so a repeating content control (RCC) is a field that is used repeatedly throughout a review document. For example, a Protocol Title could be repeated throughout a review, so this feature gives the ability to find and bulk-adjust the same text.
Please refer to How to Upload a Document with Content Controls for more information on singular content controls.
- To enable RCC feature, fill in the value field with ‘***’ or a specific prefix before uploading the document to Please Review.
2. Using Repeating Content Controls
- Inside the review, make a proposed change to a content control, in this instance it's the protocol title ProtocolTitle changed to TEST Title.
- To make a change, click on the content control you want to adjust.
- Make the proposed change i.e. TEST Title.
- Write a comment in the box if needed, then click Apply.
Note: A tooltip will appear if a user makes a change directly to the control. But it will not appear on any of the other occurrences.
- Scroll down to the occurrences within the review.
- Changes will be made to the controls that share the same title.
- The RCC change should appear throughout the document once applied, below it shows the TEST Title adjustment has been made:
3. Disabling Repeating Content Controls
- To disable RCC, leave the value field empty before uploading the document to Please Review.
- It will behave as normal proposed change.
- Changes will not be made to the controls that are sharing the same title.
4. Repeating Content Controls keynotes
Here are a few things to note about repeating content controls:
- A tooltip will not appear on any of the other occurrences throughout the document. It will only show the tracked changes.
- If you hover over a normal (not repeating) content control, a tooltip will not appear.
- The same value will appear for all occurrences in the review pane, tooltips, text editor and paragraph history.
- There will be no merge conflict with repeating content controls, any updates you make will always override the previous one.
- If all the changes are open, it will show the previous value in strikethrough and the latest value in track change in review, tooltip and downloaded document.
- If the latest value has been accepted, there will be no confirmation message.
