This article includes details on the changes to Please Review 8.7.1 and provides a link with instructions on how to perform the upgrade. 

1. Product changes

Search by document title and filter by document type in Inside Review (PR-41083)

What's new: A filename search bar is added to the document list in the left navigation pane with automatic wildcard matching. Color-coded labels distinguish document types (Review, Reference, Feedback), and users can filter by document type. Search terms and filters operate simultaneously.

Benefit: Speeds up document navigation in multi-document reviews, enabling reviewers to instantly isolate specific files by name and document role.

Veeva enhancements (PR-42779, PR-42892, PR-43149)

What's new: Review owners can add or remove participants after a review has started. Vault notifications and emails now include direct deep links (Enter Review | Review Control Panel) to land users on the specific review without manual navigation. Review status counts are displayed continuously across all statuses regardless of filter selection, and an informational warning is shown when accessing Vault-centric review's review control panel in native Please Review.

Benefit: Review owners can now correct participant lists mid-review without restarting. Vault email recipients land directly on the right review via a single click instead of searching manually. All review status counts are always visible at a glance, and a warning prevents accidental edits to Vault-centric reviews inside native Please Review that could cause a mismatch.

Secured handling of session ID in URL parameter (PR-30483)

What's new: Authentication handling for Veeva Vault integrations and Word Plugin browser handoffs has been strengthened. Session credentials are now transmitted using a more secure protocol, and Word Plugin handoffs now use single-use, short-lived authentication tokens in place of static identifiers.

Benefit: Reduces credential exposure risk and aligns integration with enterprise security standards.

Handle open tracked changes in OfficeMath (Equation) (PR-42519)

What's new: Resolved a data loss issue where mathematical equations (OfficeMath) containing open tracked changes were omitted or caused file corruption upon document download. OfficeMath structures are now preserved within Content Controls and standalone paragraphs in review roundtrips and Reconciliation Report.

Benefit: Prevents mathematical equation loss in documents, maintaining full fidelity between review sessions and downloaded Word deliverables.

IQMP-PR Embedded Integration Enhancements (PR-42884, PR-42918)

What's new: Enabled CHIPS (Cookies Having Independent Partitioned State) to preserve session state inside embedded iframes across third-party cookie-blocking browsers.

Benefit: Guarantees seamless embedded document review inside host systems across strict modern browser privacy modes, eliminating unexpected session timeouts when opening toolbar popups and reports.

Support for Windows Server 2025 (PR-43645)

What's new: Please Review now supports installation and operation on Windows Server 2025, extending platform compatibility to Microsoft's latest server OS release.

Benefit: Keeps Please Review running on a current, fully supported server platform as part of infra upgrade plans, ensuring continued compatibility and security patching as Microsoft moves away from older server versions.

Notification workflow in the Veeva Vault integration

When adding a participant to an in-progress review configured with the Notification workflow in Veeva Vault, an email or notification will not be sent to the newly added user. This happens because the Notification workflow does not trigger notification events for participants added after a review has started. To access the review, the added participant can open the review directly from their Veeva Vault inbox.

Download behaviour

1. When downloading a document with Open as Tracked, Accepted as Normal Text after accepting an equation change in Please Review, the equation remains a track change instead of normal text. This is because equations are non-editable elements and are restored without editing. The same behaviour occurs when downloading from Word Online.
2. When a tracked change contains text and an equation on the same line, downloading with Open as Comment or Comment Only centres the equation. The text is converted to a comment, while the non-editable equation remains on the page and defaults to the centre.
3. When a document contains deleted and inserted equation changes, downloading from Please Review with Accepted as Tracked or Comment Only shows the inserted equation in the comment balloon but not the deleted one. This reflects inconsistent Microsoft Word behaviour, which varies depending on whether modern comments are enabled.

Upload/import behaviour

1. Track changes made only to an equation in Microsoft Word, without changes to surrounding text, will not be imported into Please Review. This is because changes to non-editable elements are not displayed. The change remains in the document after download.
2. Normal text placed inside a Microsoft Word equation placeholder is treated as part of the equation and displayed as an image icon in Please Review. This is because the system cannot distinguish text from the equation element.

Comment balloon rendering

After roundtripping a document with an equation in a comment, the image placeholder is missing from the comment balloon in Please Review. Comment text is stored as plain text, while proposed changes use HTML, so only Proposed Change balloons can display image placeholders.

4. Known behaviours

Participant role, active workflow task in Veeva Vault

1. When adding a participant to a review with an active workflow, an "Information" prompt will appear if there is no available Please Review task for the selected role in the active workflow. This happens when a role in the active workflow has no remaining participants while other roles still have active workflow tasks. To resolve this, select another role for the user.
2. When a review is started with only a non-contributor participant (e.g., Author) and a contributor participant is added after the review has started, the owner will remain as owner and will not be converted to owner-contributor.
3. When adding a participant to a review that has just started with no active workflow task, no "Information" prompt will be displayed if the participant's role downgrade in Please Review has not yet been synchronized at the time of adding. The participant will be added without validation. This happens due to a timing gap between the role downgrade and the synchronization of the updated role from Please Review.
4. When downgrading a user's Please Review role in the locked workgroup PR_VaultUI and subsequently selecting that user with a higher participant role in the Review Control Panel page, the user's Please Review role in the unlocked workgroup PR_VaultUIAll will also be downgraded. This behaviour is also reproducible on the Review Summary page.
5. When a participant is removed from an active workflow task that has already been completed, the active workflow task status will not change from completed to cancelled. A "Resync Role" button will appear; clicking it will re-add the participant to the task.
