Understanding the "File Access Error" in logs
Who is this article for?Administrators seeing the taraweb.log error.
Server access is required to access the current taraweb.log
This article explains why the logs may show the error that it is unable to access the file ....log\tarweb.log because it is being used by another process.
1. File access error
Please Review's Admin pages now provide SYSADMIN users access to log files. While older logs can be viewed without issues, attempts to access current log files (TaraWeb.log or TaraService.log) may result in an error message.
- Users may encounter the following error: "Unable to access the file ....log\tarweb.log because it is being used by another process."
- This error occurs because the application cannot read files that are actively in use by the Please Review system. It's important to note that:
- This is not an indication of a system malfunction.
- The error can be safely ignored.
- It's a limitation of the application's file reading capabilities while logs are being written.
- Affected Files
- TaraWeb.log
- TaraService.log
- To address this issue, a feature request (IdeaPR-I-224) has been submitted. The proposal suggests making current log files unclickable or implementing a similar solution to prevent these errors from occurring.
- If you need to view the most recent log entries, consider:
- Waiting until the Please Review service is not actively running.
- Using alternative log viewing tools that can handle locked files.
- While this error may seem concerning, it's merely a result of the system's active processes and does not indicate any underlying problems with Please Review's functionality.
Note: PR-I-224 was raised to ask if these could be made unclickable or similar to avoid these errors in the first place.
