Managing sysadmin login or access
Who is this article for?Administrators responsible for managing system access.
Database access is required to make these changes.
Sysadmin (also referred to as System Administrator) access in PR, is initially provided for setting up users when PR is installed, but it can also be extended to other users. However, it's advisable to restrict such access to as few users as possible.
This change must be made on the database side and cannot be adjusted via the web interface. Therefore, reversing this change also requires database-side action, which for hosted instances involves contacting support.
1. Providing the sysadmin login password
For hosted customers, we cannot disclose existing login passwords due to limited access.
However, we can reset the password for the built-in sysadmin user upon request. To proceed, we need confirmation from a recognised contact authorised to request such actions, typically verified by the account manager.
For on-premise customers, follow the steps to resetting the original sysadmin password.
2. Changing the sysadmin email address
To change this email address:
- Log in as a System Administrator.
- Go to Admin.
- Select Users.
Alternatively, click the Profile cog. - Change the email address.
- Click Save.
Email address entered cannot be the same as an email address associated with an existing user account.
3. Granting/removing sysadmin access to/from another user
It's important to recognise that granting/removing sysadmin access can only be accomplished within the database, granting/revoking the user full administrative privileges across all workgroups.
This access persists until the setting is removed from the database:
- For hosted customers, please contact Support for assistance with this procedure.
- For on-premise customers, for security purposes, these instructions are available upon request.
In all cases, confirmation from a recognised contact is required before proceeding with these actions, typically confirmed by the account manager. However, we can accept this from an existing sysadmin user too.
Note that, if when revoking permissions, you also want to remove the user, please remember that we recommend disabling the user, not deleting the user, as per Please Review Removing / Disabling Users.
